Why Seek Counseling?
People seek emotional support for many different reasons. Sometimes we need help in dealing with a loved one or friend, health issues, job changes or challenges in relationships. Often we may want support with recovery from a major life event or an accumulation of multiple life changes or stressors. Sometimes we may want support with exploring our own personal growth to move from an emotional place we feel stuck or just to enhance the life we are living.
Although the issues are different for each person, there is a common need to learn more about ourselves through personal insight and emotional support. You may have thought about talking to family or friends. That can be a good place to start, although many times you can benefit from talking to a professional. A professional will introduce you to new tools and help to support and expedite your process towards living the way you want.
What are the Benefits of Counseling?
Research shows that counseling is effective. Participating in therapy with a skilled professional who is removed from the situation and can offer supportive listening in a safe, non-judgmental environment can promote personal growth and conscious change.
Seeking help when you are experiencing distress can prevent symptoms and problems from worsening. You may benefit from counseling if you are having feelings of low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, stress, or problems with eating or sleeping.
